Where did the love go? Using your 5 senses to bring the love back (part 3)

Part 3: Scent

It is said that men associate love with the scent of Vanilla and Cinnamon and women are most attracted to the natural scent of their partner. What do you remember about the first time you inhaled the scent of your love?

What’s great about ones sense of smell is it’s ability to trigger memories. If you can remember the scent your love had on your first date then that could trigger the memory of your first date. With memories comes emotions, that wonderful feeling you had on your first date. This can happen with any memory.

So what does this mean? Well simply put you and your partner can evoke thoughts, memories, and emotions in each other simply by using scents you both have come to love. Think beyond fragrance… you can also use locations you’ve been (i.e. the beach), restaurants you’ve eaten at (i.e. the smell of rosemary chicken), or even a hand lotion that was previously worn and maybe was forgotten about.

It’s up to you to keep the thoughts of love continuously flowing and scents can definitely aid you in that process. Here’s your homework: Pick a night where you can both have an hour or two to yourselves. Try and remember different scents YOU think your partner loves on you, or may trigger a loving moment you have shared together. Take turns blindfolding each other and introducing the scent to one another. Get the person who is blindfolded to explain what feeling the scent triggers and what memory comes to mind.

Remember to enjoy and take a personal note of what love smells like to your special someone!
